News Release: Pioneer Flower Farms Gratitude

Seeing the aerial view from the news coverage just brings our family to tears. It’s hard to breathe at times, but seeing the donations we have received from friends, family and community are beyond words. We cannot thank the community enough for their generosity.

On behalf of all the employees at Pioneer Flower Farms, we extend our thanks again to the community for all your kind words, thoughts, prayers and efforts to assist us during this heart wrenching time.

We would ask again that all apparel and toiletries be ceased at drop off locations, as we have more than enough to share amongst our migrant and local staff. Anything above and beyond their current needs, we will be donating to Community Care.

In addition to physical donations, the family is aware and beyond grateful of the monetary funds through the GoFundMe arranged by Joni Sewist, the Facebook donation by Carli Taylor-Hoffmann & the Emergency Trust by Pen Financial Branches.

We assure you all funds will be divided amongst our staff to ensure their families are taken care of. Our workers are family who have been a part of our team for many years, and we will continue to support their future employment.

If you know the boys, Henk Jr, Peter and their father Henk Sr., you know they are hard working leaders who will rise through these ashes.

Please go to your local grocery store and buy sunflowers to brighten your homes for us. We will be shipping more bunches in the coming days and we appreciate you supporting our customers in the weeks and months ahead.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

    Statement from the Sikking Family
At approximately 11:00 pm on Friday, August 16, 2019, a devastating fire erupted on the premises of  Pioneer Flower Farms in St. Catharines, ON.  While largely contained, firefighters continue to extinguish smoldering areas.

The safety of our employees and the community is our top priority.  While we can confirm that no one was injured during this incident, business and personal losses have occurred.  We are saddened by this tragedy and are committed to supporting our workers (both local and migrant) through their losses and with continuity of employment.

We are cooperating fully with local officials to determine the cause of the fire, and will share more details as they are available.

We want to thank the first responders from multiple municipalities.  St. Catharines Fire Department remains on site to ensure the safety of the community.  Additionally, we want to thank the community and local business partners for their outpouring of support.  While we have not specifically requested donations, generous donations of clothing and other supplies have been received on behalf of our migrant workforce.  For those interested in future donations please drop them off at 318 Ontario Street in St. Catharines and Hernder’s Winery at 1607 8th Avenue in St. Catharines.
