Our Story

Pioneer’s roots were established in 1971 when Henk Sikking purchased a farm in St. Catharines, Ontario. Using the experience he gained at his father’s farm in the Netherlands, he started a bulb forcing greenhouse in Canada, growing a large variety of bulbs and seasonal crops for wholesale purposes. His passion for growing was introduced to his two sons, Henk Jr. and Peter, who now oversee the greenhouse operation and together have built up one of the largest bulb forcing farms in North America, producing over 70 million blooms per year making Pioneer an industry leader.

From the start of planting to the time your product leaves our facility, Pioneer’s hands-on approach ensures that quality, care, and efficiency are maintained through the entire growing cycle. Our strong connection with greenhouse and floral experts in Holland allow us to remain updated with the latest growing systems and procedures. Pioneer has a dedicated sales team who ensure that every order meets the customer’s product specifications and delivery requirements.

Our Facility

The farm includes 328,000 square feet of greenhouse space and 4.75 acres of cold storage necessary for the production of forced blooms. State of the art greenhouses and equipment allow for increased production while keeping labour costs down. The moving bench system is just one of the innovative pieces of equipment that has revolutionized flower production at Pioneer Flower Farms. This sophisticated labour saving machinery automates the entire process of harvesting, cutting, grading and packing the blooming bulbs. These and other cost saving practices allow Pioneer to remain competitive and customers can be assured that they are getting the best quality, service and price possible.
